OUR EXPERIENCE
Mr. Leventhal has extensive career experience in the broadcast, telecom/common carrier, wireless, domestic and international satellite communications, media production and distribution industries. He also advises numerous media companies on copyright, trademark, Internet and other new technology matters.
This experience is reflected in Mr. Leventhal's active and continuous presence before various committees of the U.S. Congress; numerous federal and state agencies, including the U.S. Departments of State, Justice and Commerce, the United States Trade Representative, the Federal Communications Commission, Federal Trade Commission and Federal Election Commission, and the New York and California Public Service Commissions; the International Telecommunication Union; Mexico's Cofetel; and both lower and appellate state and federal courts in the United States. Honors include SuperLawyers 2013-2021 and Best Lawyers 2010-2021.
Notable Accomplishments

Founded, organized and obtained licensing of the world’s first privately-owned international satellite system, PanAmSat; and with a sister company, through extended domestic and international governmental negotiations, created the first U.S. “transborder” satellite operation, now well-established in U.S. policy.

Negotiated, along with client, full-satellite transponder agreements, as well as satellite acquisition agreements, for direct-to-home television services in Mexico and Central America along with companion inter-party sharing agreements.

Was significant participant in creation of FCC policies for new global satellite systems providing fixed, as well as mobile voice and data services, in all world regions.

Represented country’s most prominent Spanish language television group in leading license renewal hearing at FCC securing a successful conclusion for the client.

Resurrected a client’s ability to register a critical trademark in key countries around the world through a novel regulatory approach and successful negotiation of a global trademark settlement agreement.
OUR ATTORNEYS
Norm Leventhal began his career in 1968 with the prestigious communications law firm of McKenna, Wilkinson & Kittner. In 1982, he left to form his own firm which, after growing to almost 30 attorneys, became known as Leventhal, Senter & Lerman. He was the sole founding partner of L,S&L and, in later years was chair of the Intellectual Property and New Technology group at his firm.
In 2009, Norm became a partner in Holland & Knight's Washington, D.C., office practicing in the areas of telecommunications, media and intellectual property. Now, again at his own firm — the Leventhal Law Group — with more than 50 years of experience in these fields, he continues to represent industry leaders and new entrants alike.
